Marco Trabucco

Double Bass · Electric Bass · Composer

Marco Trabucco is a double bassist, electric bassist and composer whose work moves between performance, composition and improvisational research. He is particularly interested in the conditions that shape and constrain spontaneous musical expression as it unfolds.

He studied at the G. Tartini Conservatory in Trieste, Ca’ Foscari University of Venice and the A. Steffani Conservatory in Castelfranco Veneto, earning qualifications in jazz electric bass, jazz double bass, instrumental teaching and performing arts. His further training includes masterclasses with Keith Tippett, Bjorn Meyer and Jarrod Cagwin, and work on improvisation with Stefano Battaglia, Salvatore Maiore and Roberto Dani.

Trabucco has performed and recorded with musicians including Klaus Gesing, Nico Gori, Lanfranco Malaguti and Federico Casagrande. His discography began in 2010 with Trabucco Bros — Open/Close (Blue Serge Records) and includes Orchestra (Caligola Records), Making Friends (Abeat Records) with Gesing, and ...e penso a te, recorded at La Fabrique with producer Stefano Amerio and engineer Al Schmitt.

His distinctions include first prizes at the Chicco Bettinardi National Competition, with Oir Quartet for best debut recording, the Giovani Musicisti Città di Treviso competition and Blow into the Nightfly (2012), as well as the Berklee Award at Umbria Jazz. In 2016 Veneto Jazz recognized him among the emerging talents of Italy’s jazz scene.

As a leader, he released A Long Trip / With You (Abeat), followed by Meraki (Artesuono, 2019) and X [ics] (Abeat). The latter brings a jazz quartet together with a classical chamber ensemble, exploring the relationship between improvisation, written form and timbre. X [ics] was included by Amedeo Furfaro in Nuovo Jazz Italiano in 100 dischi.

Alongside his jazz work, Trabucco performs classical symphonic repertoire. His appearances include Teatro La Fenice in Venice, the Konzerthaus in Vienna and the RAI Auditorium in Trieste, as well as Veneto Jazz, Orvieto Jazz, Sile Jazz and Padova Jazz. He has appeared on Radio RAI 3’s Piazza Verdi, and his biography appears in Flavio Caprera’s Dizionario del Jazz Italiano.

In 2026 he founded SONÈRVIA in Scorzè, near Venice: an independent institute dedicated to advanced research into sonic improvisation. It brings together his work as an instrumentalist, composer and cultural organizer.
